(“He who begins well is already halfway there.” – The Dalmatian Energy Agency follows this Virgil proverb and uses all opportunities to establish good principles for future business. Cooperation and synergy with European institutions is essential, and as part of this, it was held in Split these days ManagEnergy Expert Mission with one of the experienced European energy agencies.)

ManagEnergy expert Savvas Vlachos, vice-president of FEDARANE (European Federation of Agencies and Regions for Energy and Environment) and director of the Cyprus Energy Agency, spent 3 days (from 27 to 29 May) with the Dalmatian Energy Agency to share his own development and maintenance experience of their energy agency model. On the agenda were: strategic business development of energy agencies with special emphasis on financing flows and EU funds.

The mission started on the 27th. May with a meeting between expert Savvas Vlachos (CEA ), director Mario Jakić (DEA) to discuss the current model and structure of the agency, the way of providing services, the system of long-term financial stability, financing mechanisms and the key challenges they face. At the meeting, the two agencies presented their own history, work and projects for the future. In the second part of the day, Mr. Savvas shared his own experience of developing projects and applying for EU funds, with concrete advice.

On the second day, a meeting was held with the representatives of the county: With the deputy prefect Anto Šošić and the head of the economy, EU funds and agriculture, Anđelko Katavić , where the administrative, energy, environmental, social and communication aspects of the business of European energy agencies were discussed. The aim of the meeting was to identify projects and obstacles in order to achieve a common understanding of the necessary improvements. Previous energy projects in our county were also studied. At the meeting, the importance of enthusiasm for the energy future and cooperation between the agency and the county was highlighted.

During the third and last day of the mission, concrete examples of tenders for Interreg Euro-Med were presented, highlighting the details that can decide the acceptance or rejection of a project. Potential projects would be of great importance for the sustainable development, environmental protection and economy of the Split-Dalmatia County and the whole of Dalmatia. At the end, it was pointed out that synergy is the most important thing in the strategy of energy agencies, and this expert mission certainly contributed to that.
